Human-centered Cyber Physical Systems Lab

The Human-centered Cyber-Physical Systems Laboratory (HCPS Lab) is a leading research group directed by Federica Pascucci, Associate Professor of the Department of Civil, Computer Science and Aeronautical Technologies Engineering at University of Roma Tre. HCPS Lab is currently composed of 3 faculty members, 1 phd students, 1 external collaborator, 1 technician and several MSc and BSc students (Link identifier #identifier__57526-1HCPS Lab Team).

HCPS Lab conducts interdisciplinary research on robotics, automation, intelligent control systems, and immersive technologies.

We design human-centered cyber-physical systems, combining the principles of human centered design with the human in the loop paradigm.

Research activities include Cyber-Physical-Human Systems, Human–Robot Collaboration, Unmanned Aerial Systems, as well as smart transport and logistics, with a focus on cybersecurity and explainable artificial intelligence, within the framework of Industry 5.0 and Society 5.0, aiming to foster safer, sustainable, and resilient human–machine interactions.

HCPS Lab members have participated in several research projects at international and national level, funded by European Frameworks Programmes (FP7, Horizon 2020, and Horizon Europe) as well as by National institutions. HCPS actively participates in international committees and working groups and in the organization of international conferences and workshops. Over the years, HCPS Lab members have been also active in technology transfer.

The research topics at the HCPS research group encompass:

  • Autonomous navigation
  • Cybersecurity for CPS
  • Safe and Secure CPHS
  • Human centered robotics
  • Industry 4.0
  • Transport and logistics
  • Smart cities

BREAKING NEWS!!!

HCPSLab AT MAKER FAIRE 2025

At Maker Faire 2025, with FireGuard 360, an innovative fire-prevention automation and drone system designed by students of the Cyber-Physical Systems course within the Master’s Degree in Management and Automation Engineering.

FireGuard 360 is a proof of concept of an advanced cyber-physical system designed to protect isolated homes in green areas:
🚁 environmental monitoring with an AI-powered, self-piloted drone
🌡️ sensor-based environmental perception
⚙️ control logic on dedicated microcontrollers
💧 automated systems for irrigation, window management, and gas supply

And thanks to an intelligent dashboard, residents can monitor and intervene remotely in real time.

👩‍💻 A project that combines ingenuity, technology, and sustainability for a safer future.
