20810260 - Tecnologie e Architetture per la Gestione dei Dati

The goal of the course is to present models, methods and systems that play a fundamental role in database technology, together with discussions on the recent evolution of the technology itself. The directions of development to be considered include integration of heterogeneous and autonomous systems; databases for business intelligence and decision support. After taking the course, the student will know the major features of relational database technology, the methods for data integration, and for the design of data warehouses.

The written examination contains 3-6 exercises, aimed at verifying the level of effective comprehension of the concepts and the ability of the student to apply them in practical contexts. Optional midterms are also offered, with the same structure. Students are required to develop small projects. One of them will be evaluated towards the exam. All the others will not be evaluated, but they will be essential in the preparation for the exam. All the exam (and midterm) tests of previous years (since 1998) are available on the course Web site: http://www.dia.uniroma3.it/~atzeni/didattica/BD/compitiPDF/index.html During the COVID-19 emergency, the exam could be held in an oral way, possibly preceded by written exercises. For each student, the whole exam is held in one day.
