Urban and metropolitan Transport is a course of the Master Degree in Road Infrastructures and Transport. This degree aims at training a highly professional figure in civil engineering with specific knowledge and skills in road infrastructures design and management and transportation issues.
Within this master's degree program, the course of Urban and Metropolitan Transport aims to provide students with the fundamental knowledge related to the methods of analysis and design of an urban road transport system, with specific reference to intersections, both signalized and unsignalized.
Students will acquire the necessary skills to 1) identify the critical elements of an urban traffic network; 2) analyze their performance through the use of consolidated study methods; 3) propose coherent short-term design solutions; 4) verify the performance of the interventions adopted.
At the end of the course the students will be able to 1) carry out surveys on traffic demand at intersections; 2) carry out surveys on transport supply, both geometric and singalized; 3) represent the observed road system with adequate simulation tools; 4) evaluate performances by calculating the service level with respect to reference scenarios; 5) adopt design solutions at both single intersection and road arteries; 6) verify the effectiveness of the proposed solutions with respect to international standards.
