Introduction to Material Science and Technologies, snap-shots of continuum mechanics, Atomic bonds, Dislocations, Mechanical behavior of materials, Fracture, Materials for Civil Engineering (metals, polymers, concrete, composites, wood), Standards, An overview of new materials for Civil Engineering and of the new frontiers (intelligent materials, self-healing materials, nanocomposites etc.), Laboratory experience (Multifunctional Materials Laboratory)

Modalità Erogazione

The course will be presented through theoretical presentations and exercises on specific topics. The students will also have the possibility to do optional experimental activities whose contents will be coordinated on the base of the number of applications.

Modalità Valutazione

The written test can be undertaken either during the course through 2 mid term tests, or at the regular esam date. The oral exam is optional. A brief report can be also provided by the students that carried out experimental activities.
