The Link identifier #identifier__127863-1main objective of the PhD Program in Computer Science and Automation is to provide Link identifier #identifier__35015-2students with in-depth knowledge of a research area in which, as members of a Link identifier #identifier__114942-3research group, they will become active participants during their studies. Students’ activities are guided by a supervisor selected from among the members of the Link identifier #identifier__4826-4PhD Board or the Link identifier #identifier__91005-5Department professors working in Computer Science and Automation, together with one or more co-supervisors. Students learn the state of the art and the methodologies of their research area and contribute to it through original Link identifier #identifier__67832-6research outputs.

In parallel, the program aims to provide broad knowledge of computer science and automation through multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary and general Link identifier #identifier__28527-7PhD courses, as well as seminars, PhD schools, PhD Days and “PhD Life” activities. The skills acquired during the PhD program can be used not only in academia but also in industry.

Admission takes place through a selection procedure in response to a Link identifier #identifier__58296-8call for applications published for each PhD cycle. The Link identifier #identifier__103149-9doctoral program, governed by its Link identifier #identifier__27642-10regulations, requires students to submit a training program at the beginning of each academic year. Admission to each year after the first is decided by the PhD Board. The program concludes with a thesis, which is assessed by the PhD Board, sent to external reviewers and finally defended before a committee that decides whether to award the PhD degree in Computer Science and Automation.

PhD students have access to Link identifier #identifier__169216-11resources including an annual research budget, technological and library services, and the laboratory of their research group. The organization and administration of the program are supported by the Link identifier #identifier__64035-12Departmental Research Office.

The doctoral program is subject to continuous evaluation and self-evaluation aimed at improving its quality.
